The Story
"Music is the best language to talk with other people."
— Giorgos Kanterakis, Adespoto Music Taverna · Chania, Crete
During a visit to Chania, Crete, composer and guitarist Joseph Sydlo found himself returning night after night to the same music taverna. The atmosphere — three musicians playing traditional Greek music not for an audience but as part of the evening itself — stayed with him long after he returned home.
The music wasn't asking for attention. It already belonged there.
What stayed with him wasn't the music itself. It was what the music created.
That experience became Adespoto. Rather than recreating the music he heard, Joseph composed a piece that reflects on what those evenings left behind — a feeling of community, presence, and human connection that most people encounter too rarely.
The title comes from the name of the taverna itself. The composition is both a response to that place and a tribute to it.
